It turns out that tea dust is pretty stale, too. The process for that store-bought tea being manufactured and distributed is a long one. In fact, before that tea makes it into your cup it could be years old and most of its flavor and aromatics long gone.

How did we get so far away from real, FRESH tea leaves?
Not only that, but researchers have found that some of the bags those big brands use could be leaching something other than tea into your cup — microplastics.
One study showed that steeping a single plastic tea bag at brewing temperature released more than 11 billion microplastics and 3 billion nanoplastics into a single cup of tea! (1)
Even some of the more luxe-feeling tea bags out there could be an issue. You know, those silky, pretty pyramids and bags.
My “healthy morning ritual” was nothing more than cheap, old and potentially toxic tea, all packaged up to maximize Big Tea’s profits.
It’s Time to Break Up With Your Tea Bags
After a lot of research and a healthy dose of skepticism, I found an alternative that made me fall in love with tea all over again.
Atlas Tea Club sends me fresh, loose leaf tea from a new country each month. They source it directly from small farmers, who handpick and artfully process each small batch of tea. This ensures that their tea is of the highest quality and freshness.
I'm Falling in Love with Tea All Over Again
90% of tea sold at the grocery store comes from 3 countries, Atlas explores the more than 50 tea producing countries out there. This allows them to find tea in-season throughout the year and deliver it fresh-from-harvest. Plus, you get to try a bunch of teas and tasting notes you can’t find in the grocery aisle.
In addition to being fresher (and tasting a million times better), their teas are also more sustainable. They work with small farmers who handcraft the teas — meaning no good tea is wasted and everyone involved in the process gets paid fairly.

If you’re ready to ditch Big Tea, then I suggest you join Atlas Tea Club. They’re a small brand, but known and recommended by Bon Appetit, Tea Time, Apartment Therapy and others!
For a limited time, Atlas is offering 50% off your first shipment. So now is a great time to make the switch.
It was right in front of me all along — that tea I was drinking looked nothing like the plants it was sourced from. It was actually tea “dust.”
You see, those tea bags commonly found at the store are filled with tea leftovers and crumbs from higher quality tea leaves that have been pulverized into dust. Not only is this dust less flavorful than whole leaf tea, it also contains fewer nutrients and health benefits.

Tea is part of my daily ritual. For years, I followed the same routine: heat up the kettle, grab a bag, pour and relax.
But when I learned more about the tea industry, I realized those convenient little bags of tea I was picking up at the grocery store or adding to my Amazon Prime order were the last thing I wanted to drink.
