Do you ever feel like you're just drinking black water when you have coffee? That no matter how much cream and sugar you add, it always tastes the same?

You're not crazy--your coffee really does taste pretty bland. But before you go getting all upset about it, there's something you should know, it doesn't have to be that way.  And, no, it has nothing to do with your coffee being bad. So what's the big secret? Keep reading to find out.

The Truth About Big Coffee

Most of the coffee you get from those red tins and green bags have a dirty little secret. It’s not fresh. In fact, it can be months old by the time it gets to your cup. The big machines that harvest coffee beans often leave them sitting around, exposed to oxygen and light (two of the things that make coffee go bad).

That’s why the coffee you make at home never tastes as good as the coffee you get at a café - because chances are, the beans in your tin or bag from the grocery store have been sitting around for months, slowly losing their flavor.

Your Coffee Is Sitting On The Shelves For Months

Here’s the thing: those big red tins and green bags of coffee beans have been sitting on shelves for months, sometimes up to a year! And that’s because coffee is typically harvested all at once (usually between October and February) and then roasted, ground, packaged, and shipped out to stores.

That’s a long time for coffee to go stale.

And when coffee sits around for too long, it starts to taste burnt. Sound familiar?

And when coffee sits around for too long, it starts to taste burnt. Sound familiar?

Ever take a sip of coffee and it tastes like someone burnt your coffee?  Well you’re not wrong. After harvest, and in an effort to mask all of the shortcuts taken, most big brand coffee chains over-roast their beans. Over-roasting burns out all of the real flavors and leaves it tasting like charcoal, bitter and burnt.

Big coffee companies will try to spin this in marketing as BOLD or FULL-BODIED, but in reality it’s just really really burnt and they’re banking on you not being able to tell the difference.

So, yeah, the entire big coffee picture is pretty bleak.. but, there IS good news. There actually is a way to make your coffee routine 10x better AND even more convenient than it is today.

Machine Harvested Coffee Is Bad For The Environment

Also, the coffee you find on your grocery store shelves can be really bad for the environment. The way the coffee’s harvested - with big machines that strip the beans from the plant all at once - this means that a lot of good coffee berries (the fruit that surrounds the bean) go to waste.

These big machines also means that small farmers who handpick their coffee berries are out of jobs.

Not to mention, in other industries that use machine harvest (ex. wine) it’s well known that materials other than the harvest crop can fall into collection bins - including leaves, bugs, and even dead birds!

"Some of the best coffee I ever had!"

This is truly some of the best coffee my partner and I have ever had. We have a French Press so we love that you can buy it in whole bean to grind to our desired level. Unlike other coffee sets we’ve bought, each bag has enough beans to make it as strong as we like.
